A legendary Ardbeg, the 1974 Provenance appeared in 1997 shortly after Glenmorangie's takeover of the distillery. This version of Provenance was for the European market, other bottlings were done for the USA and Asia.
Tasting Notes,
Nose: Vanilla, fresh mint, peat, rich aromas of pear, red apple, fig, dried apricots and cinnamon. Herbs and spices, beeswax,
Palate: tobacco, Ginger, then Duchess pear, dried apricots, peaches and melon. Distinct burning peat, slightly sweet smoke from the fire. Ripe orange, juicy lime and citrus zest. Salted caramel, spices, bergamot and notes of cardamom.
Finish: Very long finish with hints of salted caramel, fruit, cloves, black pepper, spices and burning peat.
