This is a cooler-climate expression of Nebbiolo grown in the foothills of the Alps. The region's famous Osso Grato vineyard lies at 500m above sea level in soils brought down by ancient glaciers (sand and white clay/limestone mixtures) over a base of igneous rock from extint volcanoes. The result is a medium-bodied, well-structured, complex wine that's true to its traditions. For best results, try 10 years from vintage, or decant for a couple hours.

DECANTER 95 POINTS - "The 5ha Osso San Grato site is solely owned by Antoniolo. Since 1974, the family has made a single-vineyard bottling from a small parcel on the highest and sunniest reaches. The 2017 expresses the heat of the vintage through rich aromas of dried flowers, cinnamon, sweet leather and dark macerated cherry, with a youthful top note of wood. Ample and generous but not brawny, this is elevated by tangy acidity. The tannins are smooth and supple, nuances of forest growth are studded throughout, and the finish is positively iron-like."

"Integrated pest management with low doses of copper and sulfur. No systemic products or chemical fertilizers are used. Natural cover crops are left on the rows between the vines. Very low doses of SO2 used in the wines." - SKURNIK IMPORTS

Aged 3 years in larger, 2500-3000L Slavonian & French oak barrels (no new oak for Osso Grato).
