Andrew Murray fell in love with the emerging Rhône varieties (Syrah and Viognier) in the late 1980's while traveling through France's Rhône Valley. Leaving his UC Berkeley paleontology studies behind, he pursued his new mistress, Syrah, with an internship in Australia. Returning to the states, he earned a bachelor's degree in viticulture and enology from UC Davis' renowned wine program, then founded his eponymous Santa Ynez winery and vineyard. Andrew and his family were drawn to the natural beauty, climate, soils, and topography of Santa Barbara County. It all reminded him of his travels through the Rhône Valley where he first fell in love with the notion of winegrowing while just a teenager.
As Robert Parker, Jr. put it, "...Andrew Murray's offerings are a breath of fresh air given their exceptionally high quality and realistic prices - reader take note." Truly remarkable wines are not "made", rather, they are grown. It's all about soil and climate, or as the French would say, 'terroir'. The cool, coastal climate, uplifted, hilly topography, and ancient sea-bed soils converge to create the ideal terroir for wine grapes. Andrew Murray farms their vineyards sustainably to ensure they can harvest modest yields of impossibly high-quality fruit.
"Tous les jours" translates to "every day"...and this wine is just that, something that is easy enough on the pocket book so you can enjoy this just about any day you want! Comprised of Syrah from cool/cold vineyards for that raspberry and pepper, and warm vineyards for that ripe blackberry jaminess, the wine was aged entirely in French oak barrels for 16 months, something that is often reserved for wines that cost 2-3 times this price!
ANTONIO GALLONI 92 POINTS - ""These new releases from Andrew Murray are among the most impressive I tasted for this report. The 2022 Syrahs, some of which I tasted from tank, are especially brilliant. "We lost five or six Brix after the heat spikes," Murray relayed in explaining the 2022 harvest. "We had good sugars, but phenolic ripeness lagged, so we had to wait it out." I was struck by the deep personality and site character of these wines. As good or great as the top selections are, the Tous les Jours Syrah is one of the great values in wine."
"The 2022 Syrah Tous Les Jours is a fabulous entry-level offering from Andrew Murray. A blast of dark cherry, plum, mocha, scorched earth, licorice, spice and espresso are all dialed up. It's an unreal value. “This gets a lot of really good stuff," Murray adds. No kidding. That's patently obvious. Considering fruit costs, at its retail price, the margins on this wine are close to zero. Production of 8500 cases means there’s plenty to go around."
JEB DUNNUCK 92 POINTS - "Peppery black and blue fruits, violets, bay leaf, and some gamey notes all emerge from the 2022 Syrah Tous Les Jours, a 100% Syrah that has medium-bodied richness, a round, supple, juicy mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's a gorgeous Syrah as well as a smoking value."
