History,
A limited Indian Single Malt that carries the flavors of the ocean.
The distillery's name Amrut comes from Indian mythology, translating as "Elixir of Life" from Sanskrit. It was believed that anyone who would drink this liquid would be given an eternal life. Perfect, right? The distillery was established in 1948 in Kambipura, India, some 20 km away from Bangalore. While other national distilling shops were focused on low-cost production, the entire history of Amrut has been a story of improvement, quality, and taste and it shows in their ramping accomplished over the years.
Today, they produce a range of 11 core Whiskies and a few special editions. In 2010, (the) Jim Murray named Amrut Single Malt the 3rd Best Whisky in the World. John Hansell of The Whiskey Advocate had a lot of nice things to say about it also.
In 2022, Amrut started a new collection of Single Malts of India. The concept is basically this: sourcing hidden gems from around the country and perfecting them at Amrut. The first limited expression was released in 12,000 bottles: meet Neidhal, a peated Indian Single Malt Whisky! The word Neidhal comes from ancient Tamil texts that classify Mother Earth into 5 regions: Neidhal covers all of the oceans and coastal areas.
Tasting Notes,
Aromas of sea salt and tropical fruits with fruity flavors and phenols ending in sweet vanilla, it’s no wonder this gem was already awarded Gold at Whiskies of the World and 92 points by Ultimate Spirits Challenge.
