Altocedro means "tall cedar" in Spanish and was named so for the massive cedar tree that towers over the winery. Altocedro’s vineyards and winery are located in the premier region of La Consulta, Valle de Uco in Mendoza. Winemaker and owner Karim Mussi Saffie uses sustainable growing practices to produce limited amounts of terroir-driven wines from vineyards that are home to some vines that are over a century old. All harvesting, sorting, and crushing is done totally by hand in very small batches. This fantastic representation of Altocedro’s vineyards and Karim’s talents was aged for 24 months in first use Burgundy barrels, 100% sustainably farmed and yielded only 222 cases. Very dark and juicy showing raspberry, fig and boysenberry fruit. Long and structured finish. This is a real gem.
