When sipping Aldo Conterno's Barbera one word that comes to mind is delicious. Inky purple in the glass and silky smooth on the palate, this wine is deeply tasty, very complex and thoroughly enjoyable. On the palate it is concentrated and full-bodied. Promiment flavours are blackberries, savoury spice and nutmeg blended with ripe plums and supple tannins. Long, elegant finish.
Aldo Conterno offers a classic taste of their home in the Bussia district of the Barolo zone, but made with the estate's famously more open and elegant style. Their Barbera comes from a vineyard in the Bussia Soprana area called Conca Tre Pile, and involves a relatively cool fermentation and brief skin maceration so as to keep and extract more nuanced aromas and softer textures. Aged only a few months in oak for the same reasons. This is still Barbera from Bussia, though, so there's enough power as it is!
